Research Project
“Outstanding Woman”
Dear Members,
You are a link in the chain of remarkable Jewish women. Just like the righteous women of long ago did so much to preserve Judaism, you too -- in your own special way -- can accomplish a great deal in this world. You can make this world a better place! The Torah tells us that women are the foundation of Judaism.
Take the time to find out about an exemplary woman of the past. Read about her courage, strength and wisdom. Discover the true beauty that is more than skin deep. Find out a woman who has the special power, a special strength. Explore how a woman changed her environment and you will realize how you, too, can be a link in the unbroken chain.
Do research on a great woman, and prepare a presentation no more than 5 minutes long to present at the BMC meeting appointed to you. Remember, if you include visual aids (pictures, maps, artifacts,) you will have a more captivated audience.
Attached is an outline to help you organize your research and create your report. Try to include the information suggested in this outline. You may add your own ideas in your report.
Ideas for Research on Outstanding Woman
The following is a list of questions you might want to ask yourself about the special woman you have chosen:
¨ What type of family did this person grow up in? Large or small? Rich or poor? How do you think her family background affected her life? What kind of family did she eventually start on her own?
¨ What part of the world did she live in? What was the Jewish community like? Did she move to many other places during her life? How did each place that she lived in play an important part in her life?
¨ Why do you see this person as an outstanding Jewish woman? Did she go through extraordinary experiences? Did she change the world (or a part of it) in some way? Was she a person who was known for certain special characteristics, like kindness, creativity or wisdom?
¨ How has learning more about this person changed something in your life? Is there a way in which you want to emulate (try to be like) her?
Feel free to explore any place that you think would reveal information about your special Jewish woman. You can dive into the Internet, the library, or use your own or someone else’s books.
